EV Charging & Solar Panel Technician - Job Specification

Role Overview:

We're seeking a skilled and certified technician to install, commission, and maintain electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across residential, commercial, and public infrastructure projects. This role ensures all systems are safe, compliant, energy-efficient, and deliver an exceptional user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

EV Charging Systems

• Install single-phase and three-phase EV chargers in homes, businesses, and public spaces.
• Conduct site surveys and assess electrical infrastructure.
• Configure smart/networked chargers and integrate with backend platforms.
• Perform diagnostics, routine maintenance, and repairs.
• Carry out electrical and functional testing in line with I.S. 10101 and manufacturer standards.
• Complete system handovers with full documentation, user training, and certification.

Solar PV Systems

• Install rooftop and ground-mounted solar panel systems, including inverters and battery storage.
• Assess structural and electrical suitability for solar installations.
• Commission solar systems and ensure grid compliance and energy optimization.
• Monitor and troubleshoot system performance using digital tools and analytics.
• Provide clients with system walkthroughs, maintenance guidance, and performance documentation.

General Duties

• Liaise with clients, suppliers, and utility providers to ensure smooth project execution.
• Maintain accurate records including installation certificates, compliance documentation, and service logs.
• Stay up to date with industry regulations, technologies, and best practices.
• Ensure all work is completed to the highest safety and quality standards.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

• Qualified Electrician with a valid National Craft Certificate in Electrical Installation or equivalent (recognized by SOLAS).
• Safe Electric Registration (RECI or equivalent) for domestic and commercial installations.
• Strong working knowledge of I.S. 10101 Wiring Regulations.
• Full, clean driving license.
• Experience with EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) installation and commissioning.
• Proficient in electrical testing and fault diagnostics.

Required Certifications:

• ETCI Testing & Verification Certification - for issuing completion certificates and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• QQI Level 6 - Electrical Installation and Commissioning of Micro Generators (6N0307) - required for SEAI registration and commissioning of solar PV systems.
• QQI Level 6 - Micro Solar Photovoltaic Systems Implementation (6N0306) - required for SEAI grant-related installations.

• Familiarity with SEAI grant processes and documentation.
• Experience with battery storage systems and energy management platforms.
• QA experience or certification (e.g. ISO 9001 awareness or internal auditing).
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
