Main Purpose of the Role
The Director of Compliance, Health & Safety, and ESG is responsible for overseeing all aspects of my client's regulatory compliance, health & safety (H&S), environmental and social governance (ESG), and quality assurance (ISO standards). This role ensures our client operates with integrity, sustainability, and safety across all business units and jurisdictions. It plays a critical leadership role in embedding a proactive compliance culture, achieving and maintaining industry certifications, and preparing the group for future growth through strong governance, risk management, and sustainability practices.
Main Duties and Tasks
1. Strategic Compliance Leadership
- Lead the design and delivery of our clients's compliance and risk strategy across Ireland, the UK, and future markets.
- Ensure my clients compliance framework supports scalable growth and meets legal, client, and industry expectations.
- Act as the organisation’s key point of authority on legal, regulatory, and ethical compliance.
- Lead and contribute to the bid writing elements for all compliance disciplines.
2. Health & Safety (H&S) Oversight
- Set and oversee group-wide H&S policies, procedures, and systems.
- Monitor safety performance and lead incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a “safety-first” culture across field, depot, and office operations.
3. Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)
- Lead our client's ESG strategy, targets, and reporting, including carbon reduction, sustainability initiatives, and social value contributions.
- Align ESG efforts with customer expectations, regulatory trends, and long-term organisational goals.
- Chair our client's ESG Steering Group or equivalent.
4. ISO & Quality Systems Management
- Oversee compliance with ISO certifications (e.g., 45001, 9001, 14001) and maintain accreditation standards.
- Lead external and internal audit readiness, continuous improvement programmes, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with operational teams to embed quality and compliance into day-to-day delivery.
5. Risk & Governance Oversight
- Maintain our client's risk register and compliance controls.
- Report regularly to the Managing Director and Executive Team on key risks, legal exposure, and corrective actions.
- Ensure integration of compliance systems across acquired businesses.
6. Integration & Change Leadership
- Lead the onboarding and integration of new entities into our client's safety, compliance, and ESG frameworks.
- Align governance practices, training, reporting, and audits post-acquisition.
- Champion a one-company approach to compliance and standards.
7. Training & Cultural Enablement
- Oversee delivery of compliance and H&S training programmes, including induction, refresher, and toolbox talks.
- Work with People & Culture to build capability and engagement around compliance and ESG goals.
